Blocks 1 & 3 are sited in sandy clay loams layered over permeable clays and soil carbonates with highly weathered ancient stone below. Good water holding capacity and moderate drainage promotes root growth supporting healthy vines and generous canopies. Attentive pruning reduces bunch count on each vine concentrating flavour delivery and yielding plump fruit bursting with the bold character of the classic Schubert Estate style. Nestled amongst Blocks 1 & 3 is a small section of Viognier which yields a textural dry white, a deliciously sweet dessert wine and, in quiet servitude to our impressively flavoured Shiraz, plays a pivotal role in crafting our most voluptuous red wine.
Vintage: 2022
Tasting Notes: Blending a small percentage of Viognier with Shiraz during fermentation enhances the aromatic profile of the wine whilst softening tannins to create a wine that is complex, fragrant, and texturally balanced. In the glass there are deep magenta splashed crimsons, and on the nose aromas of super ripe blackberry, dark plum and blueberry fruits with hints of spice. Touches of grilled peaches and floral notes expose the Viognier that lies within! A plush and pure palate is surrounded by fine, powdery tannins completed by an extended, lingering finish.
Cellaring: The bold flavour character and velvety tannin profile our wines makes them eminently enjoyable immediately upon release. For those with patience, Schubert Estate wines will reward careful cellar maturation for 15 years or more.

95pts
A blend of 97/3% shiraz/viognier from blocks 3 and 1 on the estate with their sandy loams over red clays and calcium carbonate. Super-saturated magenta/crimson. Juicy dark plum, blueberry and boysenberry fruits cut with hints of fruitcake spice, brandied fruits, apricot kernel, citrus blossom, blackforest cake, dark chocolate and licorice. Deep in pure black fruits with a thick seam of fine, silty tannin and a sense of freshness as it slides across the palate. Velvety and long.
