The Hatchling Shiraz

Shiraz sourced from sites from across the Schubert Estate Roennfeldt vineyard supplemented by fruit from neighbouring vineyards in the Marananga sub region of the Barossa Valley.

The intense diversity of the landscape across the Schubert Estate vineyard yields a patchwork quilt of Shiraz expressions which we diligently segment. These wines form a portfolio that collectively represents the provenance and pedigree of the vineyard and our ambitions to make first growth Barossa Valley wines. Within each of the five separate vineyard blocks we isolate the plumper, larger berried bunches and vinify them separately. Complemented by fruit selections from neighbouring vineyards, the Hatchling wine is purposed in delivering the generosity of fruit character that has come to define Barossa Valley Shiraz on the world wine stage.

Tasting Notes: Deep crimson
Aroma: The wine is deep crimson in colour, and on the nose aromas of ripe black fruits, plums and blueberry dominate, complexed by hints of blackforest cake, clove, black pepper, cinnamon, roasting meats, violets, dark chocolate and liquorice. The palate is super plush and opulent, showcasing rich and ripe black berried fruits with subtle cedary tones. Tight, fine-grained tannins frame the core of intense fruit and are complemented by sprightly acidity which brings freshness and vitality.
Cellaring: The bold flavour character and velvety tannin profile our wines makes them eminently enjoyable immediately upon release. For those with patience, Schubert Estate wines will reward careful cellar maturation for 15 years or more.

Sourced from Block 2 on the Schubert Estate, with its light sandy loams over red/brown clays. Deep magenta and crimson in the glass with gorgeous raspberry pip high tones on a base of ripe satsuma plum, blackberry and blueberry. Hints of baking spices, fruitcake, citrus blossom, roasting meats, panforte and olive tapenade. There's a beautiful depth and sustain to both fruit and tannin here, with a beautiful long draw on the finish.
