The Gosling Shiraz

Shiraz sourced exclusively from Block 4 on our Roennfeldt Road vineyard.
Block 4 is planted on a gently sloping southeast facing site nearing the highest point of the Estate. Organic composting promotes healthy soil conditions providing essential nutrition to sustain vine health. The elevated position captures late afternoon cooling breezes helping to retain the vitality and freshness of the ripening crop leading into harvest. Respecting the shallow soil profile of the site, the vineyard is managed to yield fewer bunches than other blocks on the Estate. Marginally larger berries translate into a more voluptuous expression of the classic Schubert Estate style.

Vintage: 2022
Tasting Notes:  The wine appears deep brick red in colour at the core with a ruby rim. Intense aromas of blackberry, dark plum, black cherry liquorice and whole black pepper on the nose are further layered with subtle hints of clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, and dark chocolate. The palate is rich with textured flavours of blackcurrant, boysenberry, black olive tapenade and plum sauce complimented with savoury notes of black pepper and cured meats. A fine acid line intertwined with dusty cedar oak tannins gives focus and structure to the wine.
Cellaring: The bold flavour character and velvety tannin profile our wines makes them eminently enjoyable immediately upon release. For those with patience, Schubert Estate wines will reward careful cellar maturation for 15 years or more.

Sourced from the Schubert Estate block on sandy loam over red clay and siltstone. Deep magenta with juicy doris plum, blueberry and boysenberry. Hints of baking spices, blueberry pie, fruit-and-nut chocolate, citrus blossom, roasting meats, vanillin oak, olive tapenade, blackforest cake and earth. A deep fruit set here with considerable purity and carry. Silty tannins and a creaminess to the oak profile. Just beautiful drinking with cellaring potential galore.
