The Goose Yard Shiraz

20 YEAR ANNIVERSARY VINTAGE

Prized Shiraz from ‘Block Five’ on the estate produces our flagship wine, The Goose Yard Block Shiraz. Once an ancient riverbed, and now sitting at the highest part of our estate,  this easterly facing block is carefully managed throughout the seasons to produce small bunches that display a unique minerality to the tannin profile, due in part to the unique soil profile of the block.

Colour: Dark core with a ruby rim.
Aroma: Intense bouquet of dark chocolate, black plums, liquorice and black olive tapenade. Secondary notes of cedar oak spice, nutmeg, and vanilla bean. Faint wafts of boot polish and patent leather give complexity and interest to the olfactory experience.
Palate: Complex amalgam of sauvory and dark fruit notes fill the mouth, coupled with cedar-oak spice and slatey tannins. Fine acid line provides drive and freshness.

Shiraz sourced from the Block 2 vineyard at Schubert's Roennfeldt Road estate in Marananga. It's a traditionally framed Barossan wine with ripe plum, kirsch and cassis fruit tones wrapped in hints of fruitcake spice, olive tapenade, roasting meats, leather, dried tobacco leaf, cedar and dried cranberry. There's a soothing, calming flow to the proceedings, fine silty tannins and elegant dark and black fruits, oak spice and dried meats as the wine slowly fades.

Dense, dark, opaque and inky in the glass. Heady aromas of prune, mulberry, stewed satsuma plum, milk chocolate, sweet spice and oak. Full bodied, plush and mouth-filling. All dark fruits, sweet oak and a brambly earthiness. The tannins are firm, structured and shapely and the acidity does its best to keep the opulent fruit under control. Big-time, brazen, old-school Barossa shiraz.
