Shiraz sourced exclusively from Block 4 on our Roennfeldt Road vineyard.
For more than 20 vintages The Goose Yard Block Shiraz has served as our flagship wine. Sourced entirely from Block 5 located atop the crest of our Roennfeldt Road vineyard, what was once an ancient riverbed now takes in commanding views of the Valley floor to the east. Rounded, weathered pebble stones litter topsoils comprised of light sandy clay loams that sit over layers of red clays, soil carbonate and siltstone rock. The site supports good vine vigour delivering a balance of high water holding capacity and free drainage properties. Accordingly, the vineyard is managed to produce small bunches yielding intensely flavoured wines displaying distinctive mineral characters woven through velvety tannins.
Vintage: 2021
Tasting Notes: The core of the wine is exceptionally dark, lightening to a bright ruby towards the rim. On the nose there is an intense bouquet of dark chocolate, black plums, liquorice and black olive tapenade. Secondary notes of cedar oak spice, nutmeg, and vanilla bean intermingle with faint wafts of boot polish and patent leather which lend complexity and interest. On the palate there is a complex amalgam of savoury dark fruit notes that fill the mouth coupled with cedar-oak spice and slatey tannins. A fine acid line provides drive and freshness.
Cellaring: The bold flavour character and velvety tannin profile our wines makes them eminently enjoyable immediately upon release. For those with patience, Schubert Estate wines will reward careful cellar maturation for 15 years or more.

Super deep colour with uber-plush blackberry, Doris plum, blueberry with hints of cedar and sexy vanillin oak, rum and raisin chocolate, blackforest cake, violets, roasting meats and earth. Opulent with incredible fruit density, freshness, a swell of fine-grained tannin and a blueberry-pie-rich ending that lasts for a good time.

“A mellifluous and rich red of seamless flow and evenness. Dark, brooding, blackcurrant, blackberry nip, maraschino cherry notes, clove and cinnamon, white pepper, mahogany and new leather characters abound. All bound up nicely too; a thick, supple flow that lingers with fruit sweetness and woody spice. Lush done well.”

The 2021 Goose-Yard Shiraz is stylish and unforced as it radiates with cocoa, dried meats and molten dark chocolate aromas topped with roasted spices and sweet, balanced oak. A riper style with dried fruits, and roasted nut flavours with fine yet chewy tannins drawing out an extended finish.
